How to Find Your Youtube Niche

Hey there! Let’s dive into building a YouTube channel that can generate real income and engagement. Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to grow, these strategies will show you how to use AI (like ChatGPT) to save time, streamline your process, and make informed decisions.

Today, we’ll focus on YouTube because it’s one of my top revenue generators, even though I don’t talk about it much! From ad revenue to affiliate links, digital products, and more, YouTube offers so many ways to monetize. Let’s get started.


Step 1: Find Your Niche and Estimate Potential Earnings with AI

Why is choosing the right niche so important? Because niching down helps you connect with a specific audience and build authority faster. YouTube is competitive, so starting with a focused niche gives you a clear direction and makes it easier to attract loyal viewers.

How to Use ChatGPT to Identify and Refine Your Niche

  1. Generate Broad Niche Ideas: Start by asking ChatGPT to suggest profitable YouTube niches based on your interests or demographics. For example, prompt it with, “What are profitable YouTube niches for people over 40 interested in lifestyle and home improvement?” ChatGPT will return several niche options for you to explore.
  2. Narrow Down with Sub-Niches: Once you have a broad category, ask ChatGPT to suggest sub-niches. For example, say, “List some sub-niches within home organization,” and ChatGPT might suggest areas like minimalism, decluttering, or DIY storage solutions. This helps you zero in on something specific with less competition.
  3. Estimate RPM (Revenue Per Thousand Views): ChatGPT can give you an idea of potential RPM ranges. Ask, “What are the average RPM rates for YouTube channels in the lifestyle niche?” It’ll provide estimates based on what other creators typically earn, helping you gauge earning potential. For example, lifestyle content might have an RPM of around $5–$10, while finance could go up to $20 or more.

Using these insights, you can decide if a niche fits your goals and interests while providing enough revenue potential.


Step 2: Define and Validate Your Target Audience with ChatGPT

After selecting your niche, you’ll want to define your target audience more clearly. Who are they? What are they looking for? ChatGPT can help refine this further so your content appeals directly to the right viewers.

Using ChatGPT to Build a Detailed Audience Profile

  1. Describe Your Audience: Tell ChatGPT about your niche and ask for a target audience profile. For instance, “Describe the target audience for a YouTube channel focused on frugal living for retirees.” ChatGPT will outline demographics like age, location, interests, and lifestyle, providing insights into what resonates with this group.
  2. Identify Viewer Interests and Pain Points: Next, ask ChatGPT to list common interests, challenges, or goals of your target audience. For example, “What are common pain points for empty nesters looking to downsize?” This will give you content ideas that directly address their needs, making your channel more valuable to viewers.
  3. Find Related Keywords: Use ChatGPT to brainstorm keywords your audience might search for. Try, “What keywords do people use to find content on frugal living for retirees?” This can guide you when titling your videos and planning content that’s SEO-friendly.

Step 3: Build a Content Calendar with ChatGPT

Consistency is key on YouTube, so a content calendar is essential. A well-planned schedule keeps you on track and helps you stay relevant to your audience.

How to Use ChatGPT to Create a Monthly Content Calendar

  1. Generate Topic Ideas: Start by asking ChatGPT for topic ideas within your niche. For instance, if your channel focuses on Home Organization and Decluttering, ask, “Give me a list of video ideas for a channel about home organization.” ChatGPT might suggest topics like “How to Declutter Your Kitchen in a Weekend” or “Top Closet Organization Tips for Small Spaces.”
  2. Organize by Month: Once you have a list of ideas, ask ChatGPT to arrange them into a monthly content calendar. Try a prompt like, “Create a content calendar for January for a home organization channel.” It can help organize your topics by week, allowing you to stay consistent and cover a range of relevant topics.
  3. Adjust for Seasonal Content: If you want year-round, evergreen content, ask ChatGPT for “evergreen video ideas” that aren’t holiday-specific. On the flip side, if you want timely content, you can ask for seasonal ideas, like “home organization tips for spring cleaning.”

Having a content calendar makes it easy to stay on track, avoid burnout, and create a cohesive content strategy.


Step 4: Design a Cohesive Brand with ChatGPT’s Help

Your brand is your channel’s personality. This includes everything from your name and colors to the tone of voice in your videos. A strong, consistent brand helps people remember you and builds trust with viewers.

Using ChatGPT to Build Your Brand Identity

  1. Brainstorm Channel Names: Ask ChatGPT to help you brainstorm names that reflect your niche. For example, prompt it with, “Suggest channel names for a YouTube channel about minimalism and decluttering.” ChatGPT might generate names like “Simply Organized” or “Living Lightly.” From here, you can check if the name is available on YouTube and other platforms.
  2. Choose Brand Colors and Fonts: ChatGPT can even suggest brand color schemes. Ask, “What color palette would suit a minimalism and organization brand?” You might get suggestions like soft grays, whites, and sage greens. You can use this palette in your thumbnails, channel art, and social media profiles for a cohesive look.
  3. Write a Brand Mission Statement: Defining your mission can keep your content focused. Ask ChatGPT, “What would be a good mission statement for a channel focused on frugal living and organization?” This will give you a short, clear mission statement you can use on your about page and in your videos.
  4. Get Logo Ideas: While ChatGPT can’t design a logo directly, it can describe logo concepts for you. For instance, “Suggest a logo concept for a minimalist organization channel called ‘Simply Organized.’” It might suggest something like a simple house icon with clean lines. Use this as inspiration to create a logo on a tool like Canva or Ideogram.

Step 5: Create Engaging, Monetizable Content with ChatGPT

Now that you have a niche, audience, content plan, and brand identity, it’s time to start creating content. ChatGPT can help you plan, script, and optimize your videos for monetization.

How to Use ChatGPT to Plan and Script Videos

  1. Create Video Outlines: To save time planning, ask ChatGPT to outline a video for you. For example, “Outline a YouTube video on how to declutter your closet in one day.” ChatGPT will give you a structure, such as an introduction, steps for decluttering, and a closing statement—making it easy to organize your thoughts and record efficiently.
  2. Write Hooks and Titles: Capturing attention in the first few seconds is critical on YouTube. Ask ChatGPT to help brainstorm hooks, such as, “Give me a catchy opening line for a video on decluttering.” You’ll get suggestions that pull viewers in, like, “Ready to finally tackle the clutter in your closet? Here’s how to do it in just one day!”
  3. Optimize for Monetization: Ask ChatGPT for specific monetization ideas based on your content. For example, “What are ways to monetize a channel about minimalist living?” It’ll suggest ideas like affiliate links to recommended products, digital guides, or even online workshops. This way, you’ll know exactly how to integrate income opportunities into your content strategy.
  4. Repurpose Content for Different Platforms: Use ChatGPT to help turn one YouTube video idea into content for other platforms. Ask, “How can I repurpose a YouTube video on closet organization for Instagram and Pinterest?” ChatGPT will give ideas like creating short clips for Instagram Reels, carousel posts, or Pinterest pins linking back to the video.

Step 6: Use ChatGPT for Continuous Improvement and Experimentation

YouTube rewards creators who experiment and adapt. With ChatGPT, you can analyze what’s working on your channel and brainstorm new ideas to keep things fresh.

  1. Analyze Viewer Feedback: Ask ChatGPT to help interpret viewer comments. For example, you could input comments and ask, “What common feedback themes are appearing in my YouTube comments?” It can identify recurring requests or pain points, which you can use to create content that resonates even more.
  2. Generate Fresh Content Ideas: Every few months, ask ChatGPT for new content ideas to stay relevant. Try something like, “Suggest trending video topics in the home organization niche for 2024.” AI tools can often catch emerging trends you might not be aware of, so you’re always a step ahead.
  3. Refine Your Brand Voice and Style: As your channel grows, you may want to adjust your style or content focus. Ask ChatGPT for suggestions on how to tweak your tone, video pacing, or style to keep things engaging for viewers.
