Claude for SEO

How I Use Claude for SEO Now

I barely open my SEO tools anymore. I ask Claude what my site ranks for, have it build the plan, write the article, and publish it. Here is the exact back-and-forth, so you can copy it.

I taught this live to a room full of real estate agents. It works the same on any blog.

Written by Lori Ballen, who runs four websites through Claude every day.

I used to live inside my WordPress dashboard. Now I almost never log in.

For years, every SEO fix meant opening the post, finding the heading, editing it, saving, and doing it again on the next one. Hours of clicking.

Now I connect my site to Claude and talk to it. Read this post. Fix these headings. Publish this. Swap the book on my last 50 posts. It does the clicking. Jetpack is the connector that lets Claude into my site to do that work.

If your site runs on Elementor, they released their own connector that does the same job. Use whichever one your site already has.

Affiliate link. It is what connects my own blog to Claude right now. If I stopped using it, it would not be on this page.

The whole thing in 4 ideas

What changed about SEO for me

Tap any card for the details.

1Talk to it. Don’t prompt it.Chat like you would with an assistant.›

I don’t write fancy prompts or code. I type, or I hit the microphone and talk. Spelling doesn’t matter. Claude figures out what I meant.

My brother Jeff, who builds websites for a living, put it best. When Claude made buttons he didn’t like, he just said “make them look like the ones on my homepage.” It fixed them on the first try.

Examples beat instructions. Point at a page you like and say “like that.”

2Connect your tools first. Then Claude reads your real data.›

A connector lets Claude talk directly to another app. Your website, your SEO tool, Google Search Console. Some pull data in. Some let Claude make changes.

Without connectors, you get generic SEO advice. With them, Claude looks at your actual site and tells you what is wrong with it.

Every time I hit a wall, I ask the same question: can I just connect my tool? Then I never copy and paste anything.

3Small, specific topics rank first.Long-tail still wins. Same as always.›

When I asked Claude what my real estate site ranks for, the top results were not “homes for sale.” They were tiny, specific questions. A utilities list for one city. Where the monorail stops. Whether Home Depot carries a certain paint brand.

I wrote that paint article because Claude said to. It ranked.

Small wins get your site seen again. Once Google and AI search trust you on the small stuff, the bigger topics follow.

4Always ask: can you do it?The plan is nice. The doing is the point.›

Claude will hand you a beautiful SEO plan. That plan could be hours of work. Most people stop there.

Don’t. Ask what to do first. Then ask “can you do it?” Half the time it can.

Jeff published a post and Claude noticed it had no featured image. He asked if it could make one. It did. He asked for a more realistic photo. It connected to his design app and made one. Every time he expected to take over, he asked one more time.

Pick your starting point

You don’t need a paid SEO tool to start

Here is what to ask Claude based on what you have right now.

Start here

Let Claude search Google for you

Claude can go look at what people type into Google and what autosuggest shows. It keeps it local if your topic is local.

“I don’t have an SEO tool. Search Google and autosuggest and give me the keywords people use that I should write about on my site.”

This is what I’d tell anyone starting out. Don’t buy a tool yet. Get the basics built first.

Best free option

Connect Google Search Console

Search Console is free and it is your real data. One person in my live class connected it while I was still talking. Claude pulled his keywords, then offered to build him a plan to rank higher.

“Look at my Search Console. What am I ranking for, and what should I do to rank higher?”

This shows you what Google already likes about your site, which tells you what to write more of.

Nice, not required

Plug in the tool you already have

I forgot I had a lifetime account to an SEO tool. I connected it to Claude instead of paying for a new one. Use what you already own.

“Without specific numbers, give me a list of the keywords my site is ranking for.”

The “without specific numbers” part keeps the answer readable. You want the topics, not a spreadsheet.

Steal these

The exact prompts I used

Copy one. Paste it into Claude. Swap in your topic.

Find what works

Without specific numbers, give me a list of the keywords my site is ranking for.

Dig deeper

I want to rank for [your main topic]. Do I have more pages ranking than what you just showed me? What’s holding them back?

Find the questions

Give me a list of questions people ask when they are getting ready to [the thing your reader wants to do].

Find the situations

Give me all the life situations someone might be in when they need help with [your topic]. Then tell me which articles I should write.

Build the plan

Build me a full SEO plan for this website. Then tell me what I should do first.

When you’re stuck

What should I ask you next?

Real life

What this looks like when it works

A seller found Jeff’s article

Someone searched how to sell a house held in a trust. They found his page, called, and he sold the house.

50 posts updated in 10 minutes

I wanted to test a different book on my blog. Claude swapped it across my last 50 posts while I watched.

A dormant site ranking again

My real estate site sat quiet for years. A few months of small, specific articles and it is showing up in search again.

“Just always say, can you do it?”

Questions

Claude for SEO FAQ

Do I need a paid SEO tool to use Claude for SEO?

No. Claude can search Google and autosuggest for you, and Google Search Console is free. A paid tool adds detail, but I’d get your basic content built before you pay for one.

Can Claude actually publish to my blog?

Yes, if you connect your site. On WordPress I use Jetpack as the connector. Elementor also has its own. Once connected, Claude can read your posts, write drafts, edit headings, and publish. Most connectors ask your permission before a live change.

Is Claude’s SEO advice accurate?

It is much better than it used to be, because it can now search the web and read your real data. It caught a problem on my site I didn’t know I had. Still check its work, especially numbers. Treat its plan as a strong first draft, then make the call yourself.

Will articles Claude writes actually rank?

Mine do. When I asked Claude to review my site, it said the new pages it wrote were strong and my old pages were the problem. Keep the topics specific, answer the question in the first few lines under each heading, and add what you know from real life.

How many articles can I do in a day?

The first day I tried this, I published about 50. It uses your Claude credits, but it costs far less than paying a writer. You can also run two chats at once, one writing while the other plans.

What if my website isn’t WordPress?

You can still do the research, the plan, and the writing. Publishing depends on whether your platform connects to Claude, so ask your platform. If you build on a platform you don’t own, remember the work stays behind if you ever leave.

What do I type when I don’t know what to ask next?

Ask Claude, “What should I ask you next?” It will tell you. Do that until you know what the next question is on your own.
