While I share money-making strategies, nothing is "typical", and outcomes are based on each individual. There are no guarantees.

Pinterest is more than just a virtual pinboard. It’s a powerhouse platform that drives traffic, builds brand visibility, and boosts affiliate sales. But in a sea of content, how can you stand out and actually grow your Pinterest account?

Step 1: Set Up Your Pinterest Account Correctly

Before diving into growth strategies, it’s essential to set up your Pinterest account properly. This includes switching to a business account, which unlocks analytics, ad features, and other tools to grow your reach. Here’s how to do it:

Set Up Your Profile

  • Profile Picture: Use a clean, professional photo or a branded logo. If you’re an influencer or content creator, make sure it’s recognizable and consistent with your other social media profiles.
  • Bio: Your bio should clearly state what your Pinterest is all about. Think about what problems you solve or what niche you represent. For example: “Helping busy moms find stylish, budget-friendly fashion tips” or “Get inspired with DIY home decor ideas that are easy to implement.”
  • Website Link: Make sure to link to your blog, e-commerce site, or affiliate page. This is your chance to direct traffic from Pinterest to your main platform. You can use tools like Stan to create a custom landing page for your Pinterest profile that links to multiple destinations.

Verify Your Website

Verifying your website gives you more credibility and opens up additional features. By verifying, you’ll also get access to detailed analytics about how your content is performing on Pinterest.

Step 2: Create Boards That Attract Your Target Audience

Boards are the backbone of your Pinterest account. They’re where you organize and showcase your content. Here’s how to create boards that not only make sense but actually drive growth:

Focus on Your Niche

Each board should focus on a specific niche within your broader topic. For example, if you’re a fashion blogger, you might have boards like “Fall Outfit Ideas,” “Street Style Inspiration,” and “Affordable Fashion Finds.”

  • Niche-Specific Titles: Be clear about what each board is for. If your board is about summer home decor, don’t make it vague like “Summer Vibes”—use something more specific like “Modern Summer Living Room Decor.”
  • Board Descriptions: Include relevant keywords in your board descriptions. Pinterest works like a search engine, so optimize with phrases your target audience is likely searching for.

Add Keywords in Board Titles and Descriptions

Pinterest relies heavily on keywords to serve up relevant pins to users. Research the best keywords for your niche using tools like Pinclicks or Pinterest’s own search bar, and add them to your board titles and descriptions. Be specific about your niche, and use terms people will search for when looking for content like yours.

Create at Least 5-10 Boards to Start

Having a variety of boards increases the chances of your pins being discovered by users interested in different aspects of your content. Start with 5-10 boards that target different angles of your niche. As you grow, you can add more.

Step 3: Pin Consistently and Strategically

Pinterest rewards consistency. The more you pin, the more likely your content will get discovered. But there’s a strategy to pinning that will help your content actually grow.

Use a Pinning Schedule

Use tools like Tailwind to schedule pins ahead of time. Scheduling allows you to maintain consistency without spending all day on Pinterest. You should aim to pin 10-20 times per day, but start small and increase over time.

Pin Your Own Content, But Also Curate Content

It’s important to pin both your own content and others’ content. Pinning others’ content shows that you’re an active participant in the community, and it can increase the likelihood that others will pin your content back.

  • Mix it up: Pin a combination of your blog posts, affiliate links, product reviews, and high-quality pins from other creators. This will help build a well-rounded profile.
  • Vertical Pins Perform Better: Pinterest loves vertical pins. Aim for a 2:3 aspect ratio (1000×1500 px) to maximize your pin’s visibility. Tools like Pin Generator or Canva can help you create eye-catching pins.

Use Keywords in Pin Descriptions

Just like boards, pins should be optimized with keywords. Be sure to include these in your pin descriptions, but don’t overstuff them. Focus on creating natural, compelling copy that encourages users to click through.

Step 4: Engage with Your Pinterest Community

Pinterest may not be as interactive as Instagram or Facebook, but engagement still plays a big role in your account’s growth.

Follow Other Pinners in Your Niche

Follow accounts that share similar content to yours. Repin their pins, leave comments, and engage with their content. This helps you build relationships and increase your visibility.

Repin and Comment on Popular Pins

Engage with the top content in your niche by repinning or commenting. By commenting on high-performing pins, you can increase the likelihood that others will check out your profile.

Join Group Boards

Group boards are a great way to get your content in front of a broader audience. These boards allow multiple contributors to share their pins, which means more exposure for your content. You can find group boards in your niche by searching for “Group Boards” in your category or using tools like Pinclicks.

Step 5: Analyze Your Pinterest Performance

Once you start pinning consistently, it’s important to track your results to see what’s working and what’s not.

Use Pinterest Analytics

Pinterest provides in-depth analytics that show which pins are performing the best. Look for patterns in the content that gets the most engagement, whether that’s the type of pin, the time of day you post, or the keywords you use.

Experiment with Different Content Types

Don’t be afraid to try different formats. Create static pins, carousel pins, and video pins. Video pins in particular are getting more attention, so make sure to experiment with them if you haven’t already.

Step 6: Monetize Your Pinterest Account

Once you’ve built a steady stream of traffic from Pinterest, it’s time to start thinking about how to monetize your efforts.

Affiliate Marketing

You can start pinning affiliate links to products you recommend. Make sure to disclose affiliate links according to Pinterest’s guidelines. Use tools like Sortiox to find trending products on Amazon to promote, and remember to be authentic in your recommendations.

Drive Traffic to Your Blog or E-Commerce Site

The ultimate goal of your Pinterest account should be to drive traffic to your blog, products, or services. Whether you’re promoting a blog post, e-commerce product, or digital download, Pinterest can help you increase your reach.

Sponsored Content

Once you have a significant following, you can start reaching out to brands for sponsored pins or collaborations. Brands are always looking for influencers to promote their products to a highly engaged audience.

Final Thoughts: Stay Consistent and Be Patient

Pinterest growth doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time to build a following, gain traction, and see the results of your efforts. The most important thing is to be consistent, stay true to your brand, and continuously experiment with new strategies. With the right approach, you’ll soon see your Pinterest account grow and start driving more traffic to your blog or affiliate links.

  • When a cat claims his territory, it’s his. Even if it’s while you’re making the bed.
  • Next goal is to put the next height on this step. This was the first time I could finish her whole workout 😂 I need a bigger TV in here
  • Comment LINK to see all of my guides. I am a full-time content creator earning multiple six figures per year. This is what I do, and this is what I teach.

Digital marketing opens doors. Success brings challenges—self-doubt, imposter syndrome. Embrace the journey and keep learning. #DigitalMarketing #MarketingTips #OnlineBusiness #EntrepreneurLife #ImposterSyndrome #MotivationDaily #ReelsOfInstagram
  • Ordering the deluxe package just to be safe. #blessednotstressed #holidays #travelblogger
  • I built my multiple six figure digital marketing business one step at a time. I learned how to blog when AOL said you’ve got mail. I learned YouTube, Pinterest, TikTok, Instagram, building courses, writing books and more all by listening to interviews, podcast, YouTube videos, audiobooks, and more.

The secret is not trying to learn everything at once. I look for one take away that I can go implement immediately and then I’m done with the audio.

And whenever I’m ready for what’s next, it always shows up . Today we can think the algorithms and the for you pages for that.
  • I had to learn to take breaks. 16 years ago when I used to smoke, breaks just happened naturally all day long. After i quit, I just became a work horse. Hours and hours without breaking up the computer. It wasn’t easy at first. But now I very much enjoy taking a break to read a chapter or two of a book whenever the moment calls. And then I get up and do another round on the computer, or take a walk, or head into the gym.
  • I thoroughly enjoyed standing on my cruise balcony, recording the sunset. It was actually the only sunset of the week because of the clouds and I happen to be on my balcony when it’s started. Imagine that!!
  • Comment guide to see how I make a living with content. Instagram has new analytics. The type of analytics that we need to see more of. And tell us exactly what we did right, what to add, and what to create more of. I am a multi six-figure content creator, and I still love analytics at a glance like this!! I never gave insta the attention it deserves. I am an old school blogger, and YouTuber. But Instagram might be the most powerful of all. If it’s done right. #content #contentmarketing #instagram
  • I used to dream about
moments like this—on a ship,
watching the sunset from my
balcony. But first, I had to get
comfortable traveling solo. I
did, and now I’m free!!! #cruise #solo #solotravel
