Steps from the Video
Based on my review of the article “How To Conduct A Content Audit Step-By-Step” from Search Engine Journal, here are some suggestions to improve the article:
- Add Visuals: The article is quite text-heavy. Consider adding relevant visuals like infographics, flowcharts, or screenshots to break up the text and make the content more engaging. For example, a flowchart could visualize the steps in a content audit, or screenshots could illustrate how to use Google Analytics for auditing. For this, I suggest Canva
- Case Studies: Real-world examples or case studies can make the instructions more relatable and practical for readers. You could add a section that walks through a hypothetical content audit based on the steps you’ve outlined or even share an anonymized case study from your own experience. Prompt: Find a case study related to: (enter the text from your article)
- Actionable Examples: While the article outlines what to track and why, it could benefit from more actionable examples. For instance, explain what a good SEO title looks like or provide examples of how to interpret different metrics. I like to say: Give me an example of (text) for the (type) niche.
- Interactive Elements: Consider adding interactive elements like a downloadable content audit template or an interactive checklist that users can use while conducting their own audits. A Youtube embed video is often a good choice.
- Updated Information: If any significant changes in SEO practices or Google’s algorithm have occurred since the article was published, update the content to reflect these changes. Similarly, update any outdated links or references.
- Q&A or FAQ Section: Anticipate common questions or misconceptions about content audits and address them in a Q&A or FAQ section. This could include questions about how often to conduct audits, what to do if the content is underperforming, or how to handle outdated content. Prompt: Provide a FAQ for (topic/tool etc).
- Clearer Structure: The article can benefit from a clearer, more streamlined structure. Break up the process into distinct steps, and use subheadings to highlight these steps. This will make the article easier to follow and allow readers to find the information they’re looking for more easily.
- Concise Summary: The summary could be more concise and effectively summarize the article’s key points. Consider revising it to clearly state the key takeaways and actions for the reader. Surfer SEO’s AI writer creates the summary with the article.
- Inclusion of Recent Trends: The content landscape is always changing. Including information about recent trends in content strategy and SEO can make the article more relevant and useful. For example, you could discuss how voice search, AI, or other technological advancements are impacting content strategy and audits.
- Proofread: As with any piece of writing, make sure to proofread the article for any grammar, spelling, or punctuation errors. For this, I use Grammarly Premium.
Remember, the goal is to provide value to your readers and make the article as user-friendly and informative as possible
