OK, I’m not a new real estate agent. I’ve been licensed since 2007. That being said, I only sold for 3 years while I was building my team. After that, I focused on lead generation while my team worked with clients.
I’m a “New Real Estate Agent” though as far as I’m concerned stepping back into sales for the first time in a decade!
I thought it would be fun to document the process here as this blog has mostly real estate agents following along.
If I can help others, I’m happy to share my journey.
Why Real Estate Sales?
My real estate team model is perfect for me. I generate leads, they work with clients. I make 30% of the transaction, they cover all of the standard costs. It’s been a Win/Win and will continue to be one.
Over the past few years, I’ve earned in a considerable amount of “free time”.
While I love to be on the computer most of the say, my arms, wrists, and hands are telling me to take more breaks.
I’ve been exploring what I can do that involves more time away from the computer. I realized that using my own real estate license to tour neighborhoods and homes, as well as working in the field with clients myself, could be an answer.
My youngest daughter is now a senior and driving and will be headed to college in a short time. Since I’m divorced an have no other children at home, this is also going to earn me more freedom.
Getting back into real estate sales will allow me to interact with people, give back to my community, and use my experience to help other achieve their goals.
I generate a lot of referrals for Summerlin, Las Vegas, which is the community I live in, so it makes sense to work here myself.
And of course, the extra earnings are great timing as they will help me cover college for my daughter.
2020 has consisted of paying for my oldest daughter’s wedding, and dropping in a home sale or two would have covered that completely!
The best thing about stepping back into sales is the amount of content I’ll be inspired to create.
From 2007-2010, I was working in short sales since Las vegas was one of the hardest hit distressed markets. I made hundreds of youtube videos, ebooks, blogs etc. on how short sales worked.
I’m looking forward to being able to speak the language again as an agent with boots on the ground!
Steps in the Process:
Day 1: Got 2 Referrals. What? Already!
Day 2: Spoke with my first clients. Got them set up on MLS Alerts, into KW Command and started the process.
Day 3: Ordered Business cards, Called GLVAR (Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors) and ordered my electronic door key. (Woah, Expensive!).
Day 4: Got my GoPro and clipped it to my bike. I drove through the neighborhood and then did a voice over recording for Youtube!
I used Camtasia for editing.
Day 5: Went back out and recorded a school, 2 parks, a drive by our Summerlin Clock Towers, and 2 more neighborhoods.
Day 6: Rest. Ouch. I need to get more “fit” for the field!
