It’s Been A Year | How I Got My Wings

1 Year ago today, I signed the divorce agreement. Today begins a new chapter and appropriate change.

Since then, my world has changed. I woke up one day and said: “That’s it”. No more. I’m done. I choose life. And I did. And I haven’t looked back. It’s been an incredible year since that day.

Immediately following the divorce (final on May 30), I went through a very dark period. Nobody really knew how dark except those close to me.

I couldn’t speak.
I was hiding.
I was devastated that the future I dreamed of would never happen.

The future, to me, was unbearable.

I was struggling with two things.
– What was (was not actually what I thought it was)
– What is to be (since it wasn’t going to be what i thought)

I remember even looking at my adult daughter, which I regret, and saying “I just don’t want to do this” (meaning… life).

I got through those two months 1 minute at a time. Quite literally. Somehow, I managed to stay really focused at work. I think it was an escape. I also truly cared about the people that worked with me. I didn’t want to destroy them.

One evening, I asked my brother and sister in law to take ownership in the companies because I didn’t know how long I would be here.

Since then, my world has changed. I woke up one day and said: “That’s it”. No more. I’m done. I choose life. And I did. And I haven’t looked back. It’s been an incredible year since that day.

Stay tuned for more as I begin writing my personal blog and book.

Here’s the post from last year.

“And just like that, the battle is over. We’ve agreed to terms, on our own. And through it all, I kept my head high and my integrity uncompromised. I shared my tears knowing that there are many of us facing tough times.

Now, we forgive, we renew, and learn how to live life as the individuals we choose to be. History is for lessons. The future is a gift. I intend to treasure every moment. I’m excited to see what’s next. And when the judge signs to make it official, I will NOT be changing my status to Single. Just “taking over the world one web lead at a time” works fine.”

This is real life.
