113 Famous Taglines | The Most Famous Slogans of All Time

A tagline is a short advertising slogan that appears after your company name. It is a catchy phrase that creates an identity for your brand.

Features of a Great Tagine

A tagline should be short and memorable, yet it should also represent what the company stands for. For example, Nike’s slogan “Just Do It” has helped define how people feel about their physical fitness and athletic ability.

No matter what your business is or who you want to target as customers, a great slogan often means the difference between success and failure.

A good tagline can help you develop your unique brand message by summarizing the values and beliefs behind your business model in just one sentence – something concise but powerful enough to encapsulate everything you do into one phrase.

A good tagline leaves you with something.

A tagline is a reminder of the product or service, an emotion, and/or what they stand for doing business.

They need to make sense for your brand because it will be the foundation for all ads and marketing collateral.

Developing a strong, compelling message can take time – but there are some simple steps you can follow:

How to Create a Tagline

Connect With Your Brand Values

If you haven’t already done so, spend some time thinking about what values are essential to your company’s mission statement (and how those principles would play out in real Life). This exercise should help you establish your brand’s unique voice and vision.

Create A Shortlist

After you’ve established your company’s values, spend some time creating a list of words that resonate with those principles.

This time spent is an excellent way to create an initial group to narrow down for consideration.

Refine Your List With Other

Ideas Brainstorming different ideas can help in narrowing down what makes sense for your business.

Choose one theme or word that captures the essence of who you are and how people should think about you when they hear it (for instance, “fun” might suit a new-age toy store).

After your shortlist is created, it’s time to narrow it down.

Narrow Your List

You might want a tagline that perfectly captures the essence of your company in just two or three words, or you may need more than five lines for what makes sense for your business and how people think about you when they hear it (in such cases, avoid phrases that are too long).

To find out what works best for you, ask yourself these questions:

  • What is my target audience?
  • Who am I trying to reach?
  • Does my list have any common themes?
  • Are there any clichés on the list?
  • Is anything too complicated to read quickly at first glance?

Do I like them all equally well enough so as not to regret anything later on if one does better than another one?

If you cannot answer these questions, it might be best not to create a tagline. Once the list is narrowed down and sorted according to your preference, ask yourself one last question:

“Could I see this on my company’s website?” If so, then that should go at the top of the list!

What should you avoid? Any cliché phrases or words about saving money (e.g., “you’ll save”), any mention of where your business is located geographically in relation to other companies with similar offerings (“We’re closer than our competitors!”), anything too complicated for most people to read quickly at first glance; nothing explicitly related to what you do as a service provider because those concepts don’t work.

Famous Taglines

No matter what industry you work in, at some point your company will need to come up with a tagline. This is the slogan that defines who you are and what you offer. There’s no shortage of famous slogans out there, but here are 113 of the most famous ones from around the world!
