What Is a Blogging Platform?

A blog platform is a software or service that you use to create and publish your blog posts. It’s the place where you store your content and make it available to readers.

There are many different blogging platforms available, and each has its own set of features, tools, and price points. So, how do you choose the best one for you?

To help you decide, we’ve put together a list of the best blogging platforms to make money.

Which Platform Is Best for You?

The best blogging platform for you depends on your goals and skills. If you want to make money with your blog, WordPress is a clear choice. It’s the most popular platform, and it’s easy to use. You can also find plenty of plugins and themes to make your site look professional.

14 Best Personal Blogs for 2023

If you’re more interested in building a community or connecting with other bloggers, Medium might be a better fit. It’s less formal than WordPress, and it’s known for being a great place to read and write.

If you’re a beginner, Blogger could be a good option. It’s free to use, and it’s easy to set up. You can also find plenty of templates and designs to make your site look great.

No matter which platform you choose, remember that the most important thing is to write great content that your readers will enjoy. With a little effort, you can make money with any of these platforms.

How to Choose the Best Blogging Platform

When it comes to choosing a blogging platform, there are a few things to consider:

Your Goals: What do you want to achieve with your blog? Do you want to make money? Connect with other bloggers? Reach a wider target audience? Each platform has different strengths and weaknesses, so you need to choose one that fits your goals.

Your Skills: Do you have experience using WordPress? Or are you more comfortable with Blogger? Choose a platform that you’re comfortable using. For example, the clear choice for me is WordPress.

I love the growth hacking features, the ability to create anything I want with it, and the fact that I own the rights to my own platform. I was willing to take on the learning curve in exchange for more earning potential, and freedom to do what I want.

On the other hand, my sister Wendi loves Medium. She appreciates the community features, not having to learn how to build her own website, and the fact that all she has to think about is her next great topic.

Your Budget: Some platforms are free to use, while others charge a monthly or annual fee. Choose the platform that fits your budget.

Blogging Platform features

When it comes to features, there are a few things to consider:

Ease of Use: How easy is it to use the platform? Can you find everything you need, or do you have to search for help?

Medium is an excellent choice for those looking for ease of choice.

Content Categories: Does the platform allow you to easily add categories to your posts, such as “Best Posts,” “Most Popular,” or “Funny?” This feature makes it easier to organize your content.

WordPress allows you to use tags and content categories, whereas Medium only provides the use of tags.

Design and Appearance: How does the platform look? Is there a wide variety of templates and designs to choose from, or are you stuck with a limited selection?

WordPress is the best choice for those that want unlimited design options, and templates. Elementor is a popular page builder that allows for easy design changes.

Wix is also a nice choice for design but may have limitations with earning potential. It’s a great “starter platform” for beginner bloggers, but not as great for those looking to grow and monetize a blog.

Plugins and Extensions: Does the platform have a wide selection of plugins and extensions? Can you find everything you need, or are you limited in what you can do?

WordPress offers the most growth potential with plugins. Plugins are pieces of software that add features and functionality to your site. For example, there’s a plugin that allows you to create contact forms, another that allows you to accept payments, and yet another that helps you SEO your site.

If you can dream it, chances are there’s a plugin for it on WordPress. That’s one of the reasons I love it so much.

Community: Does the platform have a strong community? Are there forums and other resources available to help you if you get stuck when creating your blog posts, articles, or stories?

Medium has an excellent community, with plenty of resources available to help you if you get stuck. WordPress also has a large community, with many helpful resources.

Your target audience: Who will be visiting your blog? Will they be tech-savvy individuals who know how to fix their own problems? Or are you targeting a broader audience, such as parents, teachers, students, etc.?

Medium targets a broad audience, which means you’ll likely need to spend some time educating them before they start reading your posts.

WordPress is perfect for blogs aimed at a technical audience.

Ghost is geared toward beginners and non-technical users. This makes it ideal for people who don’t want to deal with any technical issues.

Pricing: Is the platform free to use, or does it charge a monthly or annual fee?

WordPress is free to use, but you will need to pay for hosting and a domain name. Wix and Medium both have paid plans, starting at $5 per month.

Medium is free, although there is a $6 per month (average) fee to read unlimited blogs.

Social Media Integration: Can you easily integrate your blog with social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter? How easy is it to share your content?

All of the platforms offer some level of social media integration, but WordPress offers the most options. You can easily connect your blog with social media platforms, and there are plugins that make it even easier.

Earning Potential: How much earning potential does the platform offer? Can you monetize your blog with ads, or do you need to find a third-party service?

WordPress offers the most earning potential, as you can place ads on your blog and earn money that way. You can also use third-party services like Amazon Associates to make money from your blog. It works well as long as you are creating high-quality content, as well as relevant content for your target audience.

Medium offers a different way to make money with your blog. You can’t place ads, and affiliate links are sort of “frowned upon”, but they offer a revenue share through their membership program and referrals.

Our Pick for the Best Blogging Platforms to Make Money

WordPress

Without a doubt, the top bloggers use WordPress to monetize their blogs. WordPress offers the most earning potential, as well as the most plugins and extensions to help you grow your blog. It’s easy to connect 3 party tools for automated content promotion. WordPress is a content management system, or CMS, which helps with content marketing success overall. In addition, you can use various content formats including video, and audio.

Your content marketing strategy should include content for SEO, and amazing content specific to your niche topic. Create pieces of content that can appeal to your followers on social, and use WordPress + Missinnlettr to automatically feed your posts to your social channels (schedule posts for 1 year straight).

It’s easy to monetize with display ads. Most bloggers start by adding Google Adsense to their blog, and then move up to Ezoic which increases revenue, and then as traffic reaches 50,000 + sessions, premium ad networks like AdThrive, and Mediavine are generally chosen.

Approved Products in the UK showed his Ezoic ad revenue earnings were he made $13,781.84 in March of 2022 from around 387,000 visitors. That’s around $35.61 per 1000 page views (just for quick math). That’s a great RPM!

Medium

If you’re looking for a platform with a strong community and plenty of resources, Medium is a great choice. It’s also free to use, which is a huge plus.T he content creation process is easier with Medium. Pick a niche, tag your articles, and submit to relevant publications.

While you can’t place ads on your blog, you can make money through their membership program and referrals.

In this video, Shelby Church shares how she made $6,000 from one article alone on Medium.
