Start a Contest
Log in to your 99 Design dashboard and click the ‘Start New’ button at the top right of the page.
Choose between ‘Start a Contest’ or ‘Start a Project’. Starting a contest will allow you to post your requirements so that designers can submit options for you to choose and pay for the best one, while starting a project allows you to work with a specific freelancer you like.
For this lesson we will be selecting the contest option.
Select the ‘Logo and Identity’ option from the categories.
Choose a package that best suits your needs. For this contest only logo design will be required.
Select ‘Start a contest’. Multiple designers will be able to send you designs based on your request for fixed packages starting from US$299. The images submitted will have full copyright and will be ready for production.
Choose Your Design
Choose a design that best suits your style from the available options. This step is optional and you can click ‘Skip this step’ at the bottom right of the page.
Be specific around your brand by moving the bar to your desired style preference. This can also be amended even after designers have started to submit design options. Click ‘Continue’.
Select up to three colors you would designers to explore. Select ‘Continue’.
Complete Logo Brief Design by answering the questions outlined. This includes your logo name, description of organization or product and target audience.
You can include any other specific details or instructions in the ‘Other’ section that you would like to communicate to designers. Photos can also be uploaded here if you already have an image that you would like designers to use or imitate.
Select a Design Package
Choose the Design Package that best suits your needs. For this lesson, the bronze package was selected.
Write a descriptive contest title. This will be the first thing designers see. You can view top performing titles from the drop down to support with creating your own.
Promote your contest by selecting features to boost the number of designs received.
Customize your content options based on your contest needs. Note that by selecting the ‘Guaranteed’ option you will not be able to request a refund.
In this example, I choose not to guarantee the contest to be able to see the options that designers would submit without guaranteeing it.
Type in your details and pay. Designers will take four days to submit design options and you will have three days for your review.
At this stage you can also improve your profile brief and include additional information if necessary for designers.
Select a Winner
Log in to your 99 Design dashboard. All current projects will be displayed in the ‘Your Work’ section. Select your contest title to view all designs submitted.
In this section all designs that have been submitted will be displayed. For this contest, communication was already made with a specific designer so that he could submit different variations of his design to choose from.
To select the winner, click on the image that meets your needs.
Click ‘Award Winner’ to the top right hand side of the page.
Select ‘Award and Continue’.
The winner will now be able to upload the final work design so that it can be downloaded for use.
You can also communicate/message with the designer to make any other changes or provide additional feedback at this time.
Other contestants will be notified that a winner has been chosen and that the contest is now closed.
For this example, a winner was chosen within 2 days of the contest. If the contest ran the full course for 7 days there would be a ‘Qualifying Stage’ after 3 days and then ‘The Finals’ where the winner would be chosen. Sometimes artists will also give you certain deals if they are deemed the winner before you go to the next stage or the finals.
